Dr. Christof Niederwieser (b. 1976 in Tyrol) combines an unusual double biography for the German-speaking world: economics studies in Innsbruck and Berlin, a humanities doctorate on Prognostication in Magic and Modernity, several years as a manager in the music industry and in premium brand business – and, since 2014, a full-time practice as an astrologer and futures-strategy consultant. Visiting Fellow at the International Consortium for Research in the Humanities at Erlangen-Nürnberg University (2018–2020), four of his own books, a far-reaching YouTube channel, his own astrology software. A portrait of an unusual academic-practical pairing.
Origin and career
Niederwieser was born in 1976 in Tyrol. His education led through studies of International Economics at the Universities of Innsbruck and Berlin. Already during his studies he began to engage intensively with astrology and with the effects of planetary cycles on individual and global developments – at first privately, then systematically.
A biographical key experience Niederwieser recounted on the FAIR TALK podcast AFTER DARK with Jens Lehrich (2024): in July 2000 he was sitting in a bar with a loose acquaintance, an "underground astrologer", who – calmly, in passing – had reportedly calculated that an aeroplane would crash near Paris within the following week. Three days later, on 25 July 2000, the Concorde (Air France Flight 4590) crashed at Gonesse north of Paris. The accuracy of this non-public forecast led him, in his own account, to engage systematically with astrology and with the question whether reproducible cycles stand behind seemingly one-off predictions. The interview is linked in our Knowledge overview.
After completing his studies he did not go directly into astrology but first into business: several years as a manager in the music industry, then Head of Brand & Business Development at one of what is described as the "Top 50" German luxury companies. These fifteen years of corporate practice have since become the genuine distinctive feature of his astrological work: Niederwieser is one of the few German-language astrologers who speak from substantial first-hand experience in strategy and brand work inside a company.
Alongside this an academic track developed. Niederwieser completed an interdisciplinary doctorate with a dissertation titled Prognostication in Magic and Modernity – a comparison of classical divination systems with modern futures research and trend analysis. Since 2014 he has worked full-time as an astrologer and futures-strategy consultant. His current base is Rottweil in southern Germany.

Why this matters: The combination of substantial corporate experience and academic prognostication research gives Niederwieser's work a connection to business practice that is rare in the German-language astrology field. He translates astrological planetary cycles into concrete strategic planning windows.
The dissertation: Prognostication in Magic and Modernity
Niederwieser's doctoral thesis is a cultural-historical comparison. It examines the means by which societies have historically tried to read the future – from ancient oracle and mantic systems, through the astrological chancellery of early-modern courts, to modern trend research, scenario technique and corporate foresight. Niederwieser's thesis is not that all methods work equally well, but that the underlying methodological problems – pattern recognition, ambiguity, self-fulfilment, reflexivity – remain remarkably stable across epochs.
This academic work earned him an invitation in 2018 as Visiting Fellow to the International Consortium for Research in the Humanities "Fate, Freedom and Prognostication" (IKGF) at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, with a second stay in 2019. The IKGF is one of the few large humanities research projects in Europe systematically devoted to historical and present-day conceptions of prognostication and fate. That a practising astrologer could work there as a scholar is a noteworthy detail of his biography.
Methodological peculiarities
Niederwieser has developed three of his own methodological building blocks over the years – ones with which he stands rather alone in the German-language astrology landscape:
- The Group Horoscope. A graphical method that makes it possible to display any number of individual horoscopes (of a team, a department, a family, a board or a political grouping) in a single chart and to read collective clusters, gaps and tensions. The book of the same name Das Gruppenhoroskop (2017) offers its own interpretive system.
- The Astro-Kondratieff cycle. A combination of the long-wave economic theory of the Russian economist Nikolai Kondratiev (1892–1938) with the long astrological planetary cycles. The roughly 50–60-year Kondratiev waves can be rhythmically aligned with the doubled Saturn cycle (~59 years) and with the conjunction periods of Saturn–Uranus (~45 years) and Saturn–Pluto (~33–37 years) – that is the bridge on which Niederwieser's translation from economic long-wave to astrological periodicity rests. He uses the model to structure strategic planning windows across several decades.
- AstroMANAGEMENT. His own teaching system for applying astrological interpretation techniques to the four business fields of coaching, human resources, brand management and strategy. From this an online course ("Business Astrology") has emerged.
A recurring substantive motif is what Niederwieser calls the transition from the Earth Age to the Air Age – a roughly 200-year shift of the dominant elemental axis whose most recent transition he dates to the Saturn-Jupiter conjunction in December 2020. In content he translates this as a transition from a materialistic consumer society (1800–2020) toward a knowledge- and consciousness-oriented information society (2020–2150).
Books
In the second half of the 2010s Niederwieser published a compact book series of his own:
- Prognostik 01: Zukunftsvisionen (2015) – introductory volume on the history and systematics of prognostic procedures.
- Prognostik 02: Zeichendeutung (2016) – methods volume, focused on the interpretation of symbolic systems.
- Das Gruppenhoroskop. Schlüssel zur Kollektiv-Astrologie (2017) – the principal methodological presentation of his Group Horoscope technique.
- Die magischen Praktiken des Managements (2018) – a cultural-historical comparison between classical personality and diagnostic systems and modern management tools (typologies, coaching models, personnel selection).
In addition, Niederwieser publishes regularly in astrology magazines (such as Astrologie Heute) and runs his own professional astrology software, CHRONLEX.
Reach – YouTube, podcasts, lectures
With the YouTube channel @horoskop-astrologie Niederwieser has built a far-reaching public voice. The channel combines mundane-astrological annual forecasts with political, economic and societal analysis. Added to this are appearances on larger German-language business and alternative-media formats – for example as guest on Hopf & Kettner, a podcast run by financial analysts (episode 20, April 2026). We have linked this episode as a video recommendation in our Knowledge overview. An overview of his lectures, seminars and online courses can be found on his main site astrologie.de as well as on astro-management.com.
On HeavenConnect he is listed under consultant profile Christof (languages: German; focus: astrology – individual session as well as seminar/workshop).
What remains
- Unusual double career. Corporate manager and at the same time a doctoral prognostication scholar and practising astrologer – this combination is rarely found in the German-speaking world.
- Academic affiliation. The two-year Visiting Fellowship at the IKGF at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg is a rare academic endorsement for a discipline that otherwise mostly takes place outside the universities.
- Own methodology. The Group Horoscope, the Astro-Kondratieff cycle and the AstroMANAGEMENT system are three substantial original contributions to German-language astrology literature.
- Business orientation. Unlike most German-language astrologers, Niederwieser explicitly works in a corporate and market-oriented setting – with his own corporate experience behind him.
- Reach and teaching. YouTube channel, books, own software, own online course: Niederwieser is not just a practitioner but also a systematist and teacher.
